I sent out my Broadcast Tech newsletter to a great bunch of broadcasters – 197 of them to be exact. Thank you to everyone who’s signed up. If you don’t get the newsletter, please sign up at the bottom of this page. And please tell your friends! 🙂
The newsletter features a few posts from my website, plus a whole heap of other articles I’ve found interesting from around the web. Most of them relate to broadcast tech.
- ABC/Disney (USA) have moved their TV playout to the cloud. The round-trip for video is <500ms, and it features packet-for-packet redundancy between their two data centres. Very cool.
- Telos Alliance are running an educational video series to educate us on streaming media technology.
- Millions of people in India don’t have access to terrestrial broadcasts, but they do have access to GSM mobile phones. Unilever has setup a radio station that dials you back. It has millions of listeners.
- NBC’s Rio 2016 coverage was streamed to 50 million people, and basically all controlled by 1,100 people in Stamford, Connecticut – not Rio itself.
- Technorama Conference delegates went on a tour of MediaHub Australia (WIN & ABC TV Playout Centre). Here’s some photos to drool over.
- Speaking of photos, it seems there’s a Facebook group for pictures of pretty much everything these days… Outside Broadcasts, Transmitter Sites, Radio Studios, and… Airline Food?
- One piece of tech on display at MediaHub were the Backblaze Pods. These things fit 480TB in 4RU, and can cost as little as US$11,000(depending on drive selection).
- Windows Server is 20 Years Old (three years younger than me)…
